Description
Michigan Antique Homespun Linen Socks 19th Century Stockings 1800s HoseSweet pair of homespun antique hose fashioned by Charlotte Agusta Kibbe Chandler. Mrs Chandler was born in New York Nov. 27th 1857 and died in Burr Oak Michigan Feb 12 1929 (A little whimsical side note, I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and there is a lovely little street just a few blocks over called... Burr Oak). I am guessing these were made sometime during Mrs Chandler's lifetime, maybe 1880s, but can't be sure. At some point they were attached with a little thread on the top hem. I will include the little note card that was pinned to them. These lovelies were found packed away in an antique suitcase full silk stockings and wool socks. There is a blue discoloration on the top of the foot and near the calf. I believe it is from decades of sitting next to blue wool socks.
Size
- Please see last photo for details and where measurements were taken. Measurements taken with the socks laid flat.
Condition
- Please take a moment to look at all 12 photos. As found, have not been washed. There had been mends made to the heels over a century ago. Some other various spots and stains. I normally hand wash my items but I am unsure which is preferred, washed or not, so I have left them as found. They do smell vintage and have been left to air out but will likely need more time.
Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out my other items!
